Achieving Savings & Business Survival in a Multi-vendor,

Multi-platform Environment

A one-day, free seminar in London on Tuesday, 2nd December 2003

in Ireland House, 150-151 New Bond St., London W1S 2TX

Roy Hunt, IBM (9.45 a.m. - 10.45 p.m.)

"Software Pricing Metrics - A Vendor View"

Roy Hunt from the IBM Software Business has regularly presented to Industry Forums on the subject of how to manage S/390 software costs, advising companies on how they can keep one step ahead of the software salesman. It was Roy's presentation to UKCMG at Torquay in 1998, which kicked off the Computer Weekly "Stamp Out Stiffing" campaign. He has a wealth of experience in both IBM and ISV software terms and conditions.

Different options are attractive to different types of customer, so to get the best deal from IBM and ISVs, licensees need to understand them. This presentation will lead you through the different licensing and contract options available from IBM & ISVs. Many customers are being confused by suppliers that changing the metrics reduces the price or increases the benefit - they get sucked in and find out too late that they are worse off.

Mike FitzGerald, Fitz Software. (11.00 a.m. - 11.50 a.m.)

"Business survival with ITAM Practices"

Mike worked in Germany throughout the 1980s with two major software houses specialising in migration projects across multiple platforms and systems support. Projects planning encompassed all aspects of the computer centre (Hardware, OS, System Software, Applications Software, Personnel, etc.). Fitz Software was formed in 1991 and today has 120+ licensed users across the UK, Ireland and German speaking countries, specialising in Disaster Recovery, Migration software and IT Asset Management.

Mike will introduce the key concepts of successful security management utilising IT asset management tools. The session will provide practical information on Disaster Recovery, Theft Avoidance, the dramatic and unseen risks of Offensive Materials and real-world Business Recovery Planning Tips. There are often shortfalls and nuances in DR plans that IT Security Managers are unaware of, or simply don’t have complete policies and practices in place to effectively recover their business from a multitude of business threats. ITAM provides vital support for some of the major elements that are critical to a business surviving and thriving after a disaster strikes.

Alan Quinlan, BT-Exact, U.K. (11.50 a.m. to 12.45 p.m.)

"Managing Data Centre Environments - Asset Management for your Server estate"

Alan Quinlan is IT Asset Manager for BT’s 10,000 plus server estate in over 30 data centres in the UK and Europe. Within BT and outside organisations, Alan has been actively involved in highlighting the importance of asset management and its role within Business Continuity Management and Security.

Using the BT’s Asset Management in-house tool sets, Alan will demonstrate the physical and logical relationships required to manage server assets effectively while giving an insight into the processes that give that ‘global view’, essential to consolidation and right-sizing. Alan will finish off with a profile of the various cost saving initiatives that effective asset management directly impacts within BT.
