Seminar News
E-Business -
Implications on Contracts Management
A
one-day, free seminar in London on Thursday, 15th June 2000
Lindsay Healy, Norton Rose (09.45 a.m. - 10.45 a.m)
"IT practices in law & recent
legislation"
Lindsay Healy is a solicitor at Norton Rose specialising in information
technology and intellectual property law. He qualified as a solicitor in Ireland before
practising in England, has advised on a number of large transactions ranging from software
purchase agreements to large scale outsourcing arrangements to complex arrangements for
company share purchase agreements. Lindsay has been involved in a range of e-commerce
projects particularly in the financial services sector and in the area of electronic
payments and credit and debit card schemes.
Lindsay will be discussing current IT practices in the law, from
software contract formation (and how the law has had to change in order for it to keep
pace with IT development) to current legal aspects of e-commerce, including security
issues and recent legislation.
Ian Law, KPMG (11.00
a.m. - 12.00 noon)
"Applications Service Provision (ASP)"
Ian is a Director with KPMG UK and heads up their Telecomms and Media
Outsourcing solution line. Ian works with clients who are either building ASP hosting
capabilities or who wish to procure hosted services. His practice is also responsible for
managing large outsourcing engagements where KPMG assists clients through the outsourcing
process - from scoping client outsourcing deals to contract implementation with the
outsource provider to contract termination at the end of their existing outsourcing
arrangement. He is a frequent speaker at conferences in Europe, the USA and South Africa
on Service Level Agreements and outsourcing.
The ASP market in Europe is estimated to be worth £5.5bn by 2004 and
is expected to bring e-commerce capability to organisations who until now could not afford
it. This year the UK is seeing a tremendous number of joint ventures and alliances between
some of the biggest players in the IT business as they pile into a market that, so far,
can only boast a handful of clients. This talk sets out an understanding of the ASP
offering and market and the rationale of the service providers who are so keen to enter
this business. We will examine the issues that IT managers will have to face if forced to
consider this "latest toy" in the context of the future of their IT
organisation.
